Maryland isn’t exactly the first state in the US you think of when it comes to UFO sightings, but did you know this little state has a ton of them?
There were 1646 reported Maryland UFO sightings from 2001 – 2015. Even though it only ranks at #44 on the list for the total UFO sightings, given it’s relatively small geographical area, this is quite impressive.
Hot Spots for Maryland UFO Sightings
The state of Maryland actually has quite a few hot spots for UFO sightings. A look at the National UFO Center’s Reports in Maryland will illustrate that while sightings are all over the place, Baltimore and Frederick counties seem to be fairly dense with sightings since 2017.
Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County
One of the big hot spots over the years in Baltimore County is Loch Raven reservoir. It has a history of sightings going back decades and even attracted the attention of Project Blue Book with one of them.
The sightings at Loch Raven reservoir range from gaseous clouds to egg-shaped craft going back to the 1950’s. The UFO sightings in the area have remained a mystery with no obvious natural explanations.
Frederick County
Frederick County is one of the larger counties in Maryland and home to a significant amount of farm land. Given the wide open spaces and lack of light pollution, it only make sense that it’s a great county for sky watching.
The lack of light pollution in Frederick county could point to possible explanations for the high number of UFO sightings. Most sightings there are of single points of light in the sky which is something you’d expect from ‘out of towners’ not used to how clear the sky is in the area and as a result, reporting planets or stars that appear to be unusually bright in the night sky.
Maryland’s Military Installations
The state of Maryland has a fair share of military presence mainly due to its proximity to Washington, DC. Could it be that the high number of UFO sightings are connected to the high number of military installations?
Historically, UFOs and military bases tend to go hand in hand. Perhaps the high level of Maryland UFO sightings is a result of military activity. Maybe visitors are interested in the military practices of humans.
Whatever the case may be, if you’re looking to have your own UFO sighting, don’t forget to put Maryland on your list of places to sky watch. You just might see something you can’t explain.
